🇬🇧 Jolin has been invited by 吳青峰 Wu Qingfeng to perform with him at 歌手 Singer 2019 finals !
歌手 Singer (previously known as 我是歌手 I Am A Singer) is a Chinese show where contestants are professional singers from several countries. Some of them made a breakthrough in China after their participation at the show, such as 鄧詩穎 G.E.M (the most successful one by far) or 徐佳瑩 Lala Hsu.
On April 12th, the night of the finals, Jolin and 吳青峰 Wu Qingfeng performed a rearranged version of 怪美的 Ugly Beauty together (from 27:07 to 37:46).
Here’s what 吳青峰 Wu Qingfeng had to say about their collaboration:
In the last episode, the song I wanted to sing was 怪美的 Ugly Beauty, and of course, the singer who helped was Jolin ! I thought it was an impossible task. I knew that she didn’t like to participate in this kind of program, still I didn’t expect that I would send her a text message. She agreed readily, and didn’t even ask me which song we would sing. I have not written four versions of 怪美的 Ugly Beauty’s lyrics for her in vain ! Ha ha ha ! Since I still wanted to use one of my “creations” as a starting point, this song is featuring lyrics I wrote last year, it’s a very special one, it’s also an impossible style for me, so I also felt that I could make a personal breakthrough by doing this. I asked Jolin with a heart-to-heart attitude, I did not expect that she would say yes. It must be fate for me to give it a try. Jolin also dared to believe in me completely, she unexpectedly said “how do we sing it ?”, “how do we rearrange it ?”, I decided just fine. I did not disappoint her expectations, I changed the arrangement again and again with my “brother” until it was not recognizable anymore, ha ha ha, I don’t know if she was stunned or not the first time she listened to it ? For me, Jolin is a super steady singer, so I didn’t think about the need to dance from beginning to end. I think she’s very powerful in music, and music itself is the best dance. What made me a little bit anxious is that after we decided on our collaboration, we have not been able to be together for two hours straight. We were never on the same day in the same city at all, so, without a better option, we finally adopted the method of “long-distance love”, every day during our free time, we were in touch, communicating, the process of producing the arrangement was in fact quite tense, but Jolin is truly a straightforward and easy-going superstar, oh ha ha ha ! This is the second music arrangement of Singer 2019 finals, my “brother” who arranged the song kept saying to me over and over “No problem ?” “No problem ?” “No problem ?” After I answered him “No”, he got emotional and shouted “I put the finishing touches to it at last !” We in Taipei could all hear his shout from Beijing. Well, he really worked hard to finish this whole journey. I feel that he has used his life skills to achieve this song. Hey, my “brother”, you are really weird! I love you. Thank you, Xiaoyang, for accompanying me by playing guitar. In short, this is a very special version of “Ugly Beauty”, really weird, but beautiful. Thank you Jolin for trusting me and not saying anything further. For more than a decade, I have rarely invited guests to perform (with me), nowadays, I feel that it’s good to have good friends. On the day of the finals, when I sang with Jolin, I didn’t have any nervous feelings. When I sing with a friend, I would feel very relaxed. After watching the performance, I feel that it’s full of stability, but this kind of rearrangement had to fit the voice, and on top of that in the TV broadcast the audio mixing of my voice sounded louder than the main melody, and many people may not be able to adapt to it at once. In 怪美的 Ugly Beauty, my “brother” Xiaoyang (Chen Young Chung) accompanied me on stage at the guitar.
