On February 6th, an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the moment magnitude scale hit Taiwan. The epicenter was on the coastline near Hualien, which was the most severely affected area, with a maximum felt intensity of VII (very strong) on the Mercalli intensity scale. At least 17 deaths have been reported, with 282 injured. (from Wikipedia)

On February 9th, a Tzu-Chi Foundation volunteer posted this on her Facebook account (English translation):

“I received a call last night from Jolin Tsai’s agent. She’s not in Taiwan but because of trust and compassion, she’s donating NT$1 million (27 802,69 € or USD$34,122.25) to Tzu-Chi Foundation to deal with the relief work in Hualien. We are very grateful”

This post unexpectedly exposed Jolin’s low-profile act of charity. Since her mother is a volunteer for Tzu-Chi Foundation, and because she’s deeply affected, Jolin decided to assist the victims.
Her agent said that Jolin is abroad at the moment, but she saw this distressed situation, the disaster area and the victims, she felt very grateful to relief workers, and she wanted to do something for Taiwan.

Jolin held a fan meeting event today in Taipei called Double PLAY fan meeting for nearly 4 hours (!) to promote the upcoming release of PLAY World Tour DVD/BD on January 30th.

Only people who pre-ordered either DVD or BD version were allowed.

Fans who attended have been able to interact with Jolin, choose songs that she would perform, take selfies with her and play some games.

Jolin wanted something different to promote this new release instead of the usual signing event, she wanted more interaction with her fans.

She thanked them tearfully during the fan meeting, saying: “I never thought I could sing for more than a decade, I always felt I was not doing enough. […] Thank you everyone, your support made me more brave, thank you.”

This event has also been streamed live on LINE TV (Taiwan), QQ and kugou.

PLAY World Tour DVD/BD press conference in Taichung: new teaser featuring performance with Namie Amuro

Today Jolin held a press conference for PLAY World Tour DVD/BD at 麗寶樂園 Lihpao Land (an amusement park) in Taichung.

Recap of the 35 minute event:

► Jolin’s performance with Namie Amuro on I’m Not Yours will be included in the release. She praised Namie, saying that she’s a really attractive artist. According to Jolin, in private she’s as cute as a little girl.

► Jolin watched Namie Amuro’s performance at NHK’s Kouhaku on December 31st. Since there were no Chinese subtitles, she could not understand what Namie was saying, but she could feel that she was very emotional (Namie Amuro is retiring in September 2018).

► Every time Jolin sees 美杜莎 Medusa‘s headdress, she remembers the feeling of having her neck very sour (the headdress was very heavy, that’s why Jolin doesn’t dance during the performance).

► When asked about concerts leaving the deepest impression on her, Jolin mentioned the Malaysian date of PLAY World Tour. It was outdoors, she was not used of outdoors concerts. It was raining a lot, she was drenched, slipped with her high heels and fell on stage. She finished her stay in Malaysia resting and aching.
Jolin also mentioned a concert she held for her 3rd album Show Your Love. She had lost a lot of weight, and while performing 你還愛我嗎 Do You Still Love Me, her eyes couldn’t focus, she was seeing double. After this, Jolin realized the importance of health.

► Sam Chen, Warner’s CEO, appeared on stage to offer a “gift” to Jolin: the word “呸 Pei” (Chinese title of PLAY album) written with oiled rice, and pink eggs, a symbol of the concert’s DVD/BD festive birth.
He said Jolin could be considered an “underground producer” since she went several times to the editing room. Jolin answered while laughing that she felt like she had given birth to a child and thanked Sam Chen for helping her “giving birth”.

► Last time Jolin went to an amusement park it was 3 years ago at Universal Studios Japan. She can only remember the Harry Potter games.

► Jolin thinks rollercoasters are more exciting than Ferris wheels, but she has seen too many thrillers, and fears now that the rollercoaster might stop in the air.

► For Jolin, Ferris wheels are not romantic, things from everyday life are, like cooking and eating together.

► Jolin said while laughing that she read posts by fans online saying that PLAY我呸 was already an old song. She’s very happy to finally launch PLAY World Tour DVD/BD.

► Jolin hopes to release the new album this summer to wear less clothes, and relax.

PLAY World Tour DVD/BD release date, album progress, events, upcoming performance at the 54th Golden Horse Awards !

PLAY World Tour DVD/BD release date is not 100% confirmed yet, but this info comes from reliable sources. According to these, PLAY World Tour DVD will be released on December 29th, but PLAY World Tour BD won’t be available before January (January 18th according to another source).

We have a few info about its content: the concert will be a mix of the 8 Taipei dates (May 22nd, 23rd 24th, 25th 2015 and November 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th 2015), and I’m Not Yours performance with Namie Amuro will be featured in it !

Jolin attended an event for BRAND’S on November 16th.

When asked about the new album’s progress, Jolin answered “Do not ask again ! Everybody must first listen to others’ albums. Album progress is clearly lagging behind, lyrics are not done yet, stay tuned for further announcements”.

Jolin’s agent, Tom Wang, revealed the day before the event that out of the two songs previously recorded for the new album, one has been scrapped by Jolin. So only one song has been completed for the new album at the moment.
However, Jolin has been working hard to catch up.

And finally, Jolin will perform on stage at the 54th Golden Horse awards on November 25th !
She’s going to perform her new single for the first time, 幸福路上 On Happiness Road, and a tribute to singers 鳳飛飛 Feng Fei Fei, 鄧麗君 Teresa Teng, 甄妮 Jenny Tseng, and 蔡琴 Tsai Chin.

The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards is a film festival and awards ceremony held annually in Taiwan founded in 1962.
